The Murder of George Floyd
Lyrics:
’Twas out in Minnesota not so long ago
When a father from Houston town was parted from his soul
This man who hatefully was held down and destroyed
The color of his skin was black and his name was George Floyd
He'd lost his job quite recently by government decree
Then he tried to buy some cigarettes a single lousy pack
The owner called him counterfeit and convicted him like that
Po' George he said I cannot breathe but the cops did not heed that
They pulled him from the police car and knelt upon his neck
While people gathered all around to ease his screams of pain
The reason that they killed him there, and I’m sure it ain’t no lie
Was he was born a black-skinned boy, so he was born to die
And then to stop the United States a yelling for a trial
The cops who killed him lost their jobs by government decree
Oh murder in the third degree as though it were just one crime
And not a form of slavery they'd thought no one would mind
I heard the first reports of this but I could not bear to see
The three other men proudly walkin’ down the courthouse stairs
For no jury had convicted them and so innocent they went free
While Floyd is still most surely dead on video for all to see
If you can’t speak out against this kind of thing, a crime that’s so unjust
Your eyes are filled with dead men’s clay, your mind is filled with dust
Your arms and legs are in shackles and chains, and your blood it must cease to flow
For you would let this human race fall down so God-awful low
This song is just a reminder to remind your fellow man
That this kind of thing still lives today like a ghost upon this land
But if all of us who love enough could give all we could give
We just could make this poor dyin' world a better place to live
